Synopsis / Abstract
This microcase explores how Maruti and Hyundai are responding differently to recent changes in the Indian car market. After the Government reduced GST on small cars, Maruti passed on the benefit and rolled prices back to near 2019 levels to revive affordability and regain volumes. Hyundai, however, chose not to enter a price-led battle and continued focusing on SUVs and margin protection. Both want growth, but they are making very different bets about what Indian customers really want.
